AN ACT TO CREATE THE EDUCATION AND TRAINING MARKETING BOARD; TO PROVIDE FOR THE MEMBERSHIP, POWERS AND DUTIES OF SUCH BOARD, AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. There is hereby created the Education and Training Marketing Board to consist of seven (7) members composed as follows:

(a) The executive Director of the Department of Economic and Community Development;

(b) The State Superintendent of Education;

(c) The State Commissioner of Higher Education;

(d) The Executive Director of the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges;

(e) The Chair of the Mississippi Workforce Development Advisory Council;

(f) The Executive Director of the Authority for Educational Television; and

(g) A member selected by the Governor.

(2) The terms of the member appointed by the Governor shall coincide with that of the Governor.

(3) The commission shall elect one (1) member to serve as chairman. The commission shall meet upon the call of the chairman in Jackson, Mississippi, or at such other places in the state designated by the commission. Members of the commission shall receive no compensation for their services but may be reimbursed for their actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their duties as provided in Section 25-3-41, Mississippi Code of 1972, for state officers and employees.

(4) The commission shall:

(a) Plan and conduct marketing and awareness campaigns regarding the importance of education and training;

(b) Provide information on careers, job trends and worker skill needs; and

(c) Create and disseminate informational databases and promotions to increase the level of education and training for all careers and industries in the state.

(5) The commission is authorized to contract for services necessary to carry out the purposes of this act.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1999.
